“It’s Time to Let It Go”

There’s That One Thing You Continue to Hang On To
Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,”

The Cost of Holding On

THE LOVE THAT CALLS YOU TO LET GO

There is often one thing—just one—that we continue to carry long after God has told us to release it. It may not look obvious to others. It may not even appear sinful on the surface. But it is heavy. It quietly restricts movement. It slowly suffocates growth. And it continually resists the forward work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
Many believers love God sincerely, worship passionately, and serve faithfully—yet remain spiritually stalled because of what they refuse to let go. The tragedy is not that God is unwilling to move; it is that we are unwilling to release what He has already identified.
Hebrews 12:1 (NKJV) declares:
“Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us…”
Notice the distinction: weights and sins. Not everything we carry is sinful—but everything we carry is not permitted. A weight is anything that slows obedience, clouds spiritual vision, or competes with trust in God.
God never asks us to release something without intending to replace it with something better. Release always precedes renewal. Letting go is not loss—it is alignment.
Today, the Spirit of God is putting His finger on that one thing. Not to shame you—but to free you.

POINT 1: God Cannot Fill Hands That Refuse to Open

Key Scripture: Isaiah 43:18–19 (NKJV)
Isaiah 43:18–19 (NKJV) “Do not remember the former things… Behold, I will do a new thing.”
Psalm 81:10 (NKJV) “Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.”
God speaks clearly: “Do not remember the former things.” Why? Because the former things occupy the hands God wants to fill.
We often pray for new seasons while clinging to old security. We ask God for increase while refusing to surrender control. But fullness requires emptiness first.
Real-life illustration: Imagine trying to receive a gift while gripping a broken object with both hands. The giver is willing—but the receiver is not available. Many believers want God’s provision without God’s process.
Spirit-filled truth: God does not pour new wine into hands clenched by fear, pride, offense, or nostalgia.
Application: Ask yourself honestly: What am I holding that God has already outgrown?

POINT 2: What You Hold On To Determines How Far You Can Go

Key Scripture: Genesis 12:1 “Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you.”
Genesis 12:1 (NKJV) “Get out of your country… to a land that I will show you.”
Luke 9:62 (NKJV) “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
God told Abram to leave before He promised to bless. Distance with God always requires departure from something familiar.
Spiritual growth is not only about what you believe—it is about what you release.
Real-life illustration: A climber ascending a mountain must drop excess weight to go higher. Carrying unnecessary gear is not wisdom—it is danger.
Spirit-filled truth: The altitude of your calling will always expose the weight of your attachments.
Application: If you have not moved forward, ask whether you have truly let go.

POINT 3: God Will Revisit the Same Instruction Until You Obey

Key Scripture: 1 Samuel 15:22–23
James 1:22 (NKJV) “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only.”
Luke 6:46 (NKJV)
Saul’s downfall was not rebellion in action—it was partial obedience masked as sacrifice. God does not negotiate surrender.
Delayed obedience is not patience; it is resistance.
Real-life illustration: A patient who refuses a necessary surgery may temporarily manage pain—but eventually the condition worsens. God’s instructions are always preventative, never punitive.
Spirit-filled truth: God’s silence often comes after repeated instruction ignored.
Application: What instruction has God repeated in your spirit that you keep postponing?

POINT 4: The Thing You Won’t Release Is Often the Thing God Wants to Heal

Key Scripture: John 5:6
Psalm 147:3 “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
Isaiah 61:1–3 Beauty for ashes, joy for mourning.
Jesus asked the man, “Do you want to be made well?” Why ask such an obvious question? Because healing requires surrender of identity.
Some hold onto pain because it has become familiar. Some cling to trauma because it explains their behavior. Some refuse to release offense because it feels like justice.
Real-life illustration: A person who keeps a bandage over an infected wound delays healing. Exposure is necessary for restoration.
Spirit-filled truth: God cannot heal what you insist on protecting.
Application: Are you holding pain because it feels safer than freedom?

POINT 5: Letting Go Is an Act of Trust, Not Weakness

Key Scripture: Proverbs 3:5–6
2 Corinthians 5:7 “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
Psalm 37:5 “Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him…”
Trust is not passive belief—it is active release. To let go is to declare: “God, I trust You more than my understanding.”
Real-life illustration: A child jumping into a parent’s arms must release the ground to experience safety. Holding on prevents the catch.
Spirit-filled truth: Faith always loosens its grip before it takes the leap.
Application: Where is God asking you to trust Him beyond logic?

POINT 6: What You Release Breaks the Enemy’s Legal Access

Key Scripture: Ephesians 4:27
2 Corinthians 2:10–11 “…lest Satan should take advantage of us.”
James 4:7 “Submit to God. Resist the devil…”
Unreleased things give the enemy footholds—offense, bitterness, fear, control, shame. These are not harmless emotions; they are spiritual entry points.
Real-life illustration: Leaving a door cracked may seem insignificant—until the cold air, noise, or intruder enters.
Spirit-filled truth: Freedom increases the moment agreement with bondage ends.
Application: Identify what the enemy keeps revisiting—and release the access point.

POINT 7: Letting Go Positions You for the Next Move of God

Key Scripture: Luke 5:37–38
Isaiah 54:2–3 “Enlarge the place of your tent…”
Acts 2:1–4 They received after they gathered in obedience.
God’s next move requires new capacity. Old containers cannot hold new outpourings.
Real-life illustration: A farmer clears the field before planting new seed. No clearing—no harvest.
Spirit-filled truth: God’s future flows where surrender has made room.
Application: If you want the next move, prepare the vessel.

CONCLUSION: Today Is the Day of Release

“RELEASE IT AND LET IT DIE HERE”

If you feel God showing you that one thing— the burden, the fear, the offense, the habit, the memory, the control— do not ignore His voice.
You were given a piece of paper for a reason.
Write it down. Not to explain it. Not to justify it. Just name it.
This is a prophetic act of surrender.
The Bible says in Colossians 2:14 that Jesus “canceled the record… and took it out of the way, nailing it to the cross.” Tonight, what you write down will not leave this room with you.
When you are ready, come to the altar. Place that paper into the shredder.
As it is destroyed, you are declaring: “This no longer has authority over me. This no longer follows me. This ends here.”
Do not rush. Do not look around. This is between you and God.
As you come, open your hands and release it fully.
